I have read and kept A Little Folly and Indiscretion. In those books I enjoyed both the story and the writing. In An Accomplished Woman there is plenty of smart writing as well, times when a thought expressed just so made me think or pay extra attention or laugh. However, sometimes it seemed that the author was in love with words and more words just to ramble rather than to use them to move the story along. IMO there were too many long conversations, probably very true to the times when there weren't a lot of other diversions, but which finally made me want to skip ahead in the book. A number of the twists to the story were familiar to romance readers, even predictable, except that I don't mind that IF they serve the story well. When they feel borrowed, I get nervous. A number of the characters were also familiar, some have suggested copied from Austen. I think what bothered me most, however, was the character of the heroine. I'm sure, bright as he is, the author intended to show An Accomplished Woman as misguided and lacking in awareness on purpose, but I don't have to like her for being those things.

An Accomplished Woman Jude Morgan 9780312539665 Books Reviews

I love novels from this era. Jane Austen is one of my favorite writers & Jude Morgan is the perfect modern replacement, since there's no new "Jane" to be had. I won't get on my soapbox & rail against the horrid wannabe Austens who ruin her wonderful stories by rewriting her characters into terribly written books. I believe they just capitalize on Austen fans like me who want more - they have no originality other than to turn Austen stories into cheap smut. (Linda Berdoll - I abhor all you have done.) I love Jude Morgan because he writes in a style similar to Jane Austen, but his own. An Accomplished Woman was witty, fun & light. I could see the characters and story as I read it. I really liked the line of a woman over 30 in that time period being comfortable & confident re her single state. There were some really funny portions - my favorite character was Mr. Durrant - smart, a bit cold, but so endearing. Indiscretion is another great Morgan.
This had been on my to-read list for a couple of years, and I am so glad I finally had the chance to read it! There was a great hook at the beginning, but it dragged before Lydia went to Bath.

I found the prose entertaining, and I loved the clever and witty dialogue.

Lydia seems like a beautiful combination of our favourite Jane Austen heroines, and there are moments here and there in the story which appear to be a tip of the hat to Jane Austen's work, as well.
I don't quite understand why Jude Morgan/Tim Wilson/T.R.Wilson/Hannah March is not more popular. His writing is excellent. The stories themselves are good, but it is the writing that makes his books outstanding. This particular book, written in the style of a Jane Austen novel, is as perfectly executed as any she wrote. Not to mention that Jude Morgan's books have even more laugh-out-loud and tongue-in-cheek moments than Jane's did. (Perhaps he needs a better agent.) If you like this book, also try his INDISCRETION and A LITTLE FOLLY, two other comedies of manners written in the style of Austen.
I really loved this book... well perhaps this author. Jude Morgan is going on my "buy everything he writes" list. I truly feel that if Jane Austen were writing in this day and age, her words, her humor and her heroines would be much like Mr. Morgan's. So Mr. Morgan, are you channeling or what? LOL
Like Morgan's other early 19th century romantic comedies, _A Little Folly_ and _Indiscretion_, _An Accomplished Woman_ is a kind of Austen pastiche that yet stands on its own as a droll and touching novel of pride and prejudice, sense and sensibility, love and chance.
Very entertaining, much like Heyer. But the storyline does feel like a rehash of a couple Heyer and Austen books. Still, the dialogue and descriptions are wonderfully witty.
I'm glad I gave this book another try. I started this book several weeks ago but stopped after a few chapters. I guess I wasn't in the mood for it at the time and turned to another book. But I remembered how well this author writes and how enjoyable her other books were ( especially A Little Folly) so went back to reading this book and I'm glad I did. It took a while to warm up to the H and h but eventually the story and how well written it is made up for a lot..
